Cookies/similar technologies, log files, and web beacons

A cookie is a small file placed on your device or computer by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites function—or function more efficiently—as well as to provide a personalized access experience and supply information to website owners.

We use cookies to improve the usability and functionality of Alibem websites and to better understand how visitors use our sites, as well as the tools and services offered there. Cookies help us tailor Alibem websites to your personal needs, make them increasingly easier to use, gather consumer satisfaction feedback, and communicate with you elsewhere on the internet.

What categories of cookies are used on Alibem websites?

Session Cookies. These are temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser. When you restart your browser and return to the site that created the cookie, that site treats you as a new visitor.
Example: Performance cookies – These help us understand how visitors interact with our site by providing information on areas visited, time spent, and any issues encountered, such as error messages. This helps us improve the performance of our websites.

Persistent Cookies. These are cookies that remain in your browser until you manually delete them or until your browser deletes them based on the duration established by the cookie itself. These cookies will recognize you as a returning visitor.
Example: Flash Cookies – These can store your preferences, such as volume settings or high scores in games, or display content based on what you view on the site to personalize your visit. Our partners may provide certain features on the site, such as promotions and games, and use Flash Cookies to collect and store your information.

Necessary Cookies. These are cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of an Alibem website. They allow you to navigate the site and use our features. It is not possible to object to this processing or to disable these cookies.

Cookies that send us information about you. These are cookies placed by us on an Alibem site and can only be read by that site. They are known as “first-party” cookies.

We also place cookies on Alibem advertisements displayed on third-party sites (such as Facebook). We obtain information through these cookies when you click on or interact with the advertisement. In this situation, Alibem is placing a “third-party” cookie. Alibem may use the information obtained through these cookies to send you other advertisements that are relevant or of interest to you based on your previous online behavior.
Example: targeting/advertising cookie – These cookies are used to deliver content via advertisements targeted to you and your interests, or to limit the number of times you see a specific advertisement. We also use them to measure the effectiveness of our campaigns on Alibem sites or third-party sites. We may share this information with other parties, including our agencies.

Cookies that send information to other companies: these are cookies placed on an Alibem site by our partner companies (such as Facebook or other advertisers). They may use the data collected by these cookies to send you targeted advertisements on other sites, anonymously, based on your visit to the Alibem site. For example, if you use a social widget, such as Facebook, on an Alibem site, it will record your “share” or “like.” Facebook (as the company that placed the cookie) will collect this data.
Example: social sharing cookie – Social sharing features offered on the site are provided by third parties. These third parties may place cookies on your computer when you use social sharing features on the site, or if you are already logged into their services. These cookies help improve your experience on the Site by allowing you to share comments, reviews, pages, and indicators, and by facilitating access to social networks and online social tools.

Other similar technologies. Alibem’s websites also use other tracking technologies—including IP addresses, log files, and web beacons—that help us tailor our websites to your personal needs.

IP Address. An IP address is a number used by network computers to identify your computer each time you connect to the internet. We may log IP addresses for the following purposes: (i) troubleshooting technical issues (problems affecting a product, process, or system

operational issues); (ii) maintaining the protection and security of the Site; (iii) better understanding of how our sites are used; and (iv) content better tailored to your needs, depending on the country where you are located.

Log Files. We (or a third party on our behalf) may collect information in the form of Log Files that record site activity and gather statistics on user browsing habits. Generally, these logs are generated anonymously and help us collect (i) the user’s browser type and operating system; (ii) information about the user’s session (such as the referring URL, the date, time, and pages visited on our site, and the duration of the visit); and (iii) other browsing or clickstream data.

Web Beacons. We use Web Beacons (or clear GIFs) on Alibem sites. Web beacons (also known as “web bugs”) are small strings of code that allow a graphic image to be displayed on a web page for the purpose of transferring data back to us. We use information from web beacons for various purposes, including tracking how a user responds to email campaigns (e.g., the time an email is opened, which links the user clicks within the email), site traffic reporting, unique visitor counts, ad and email auditing and reporting, and personalization.

Managing your Cookies/preferences. You can manage and disable Cookies in your browser settings. You can even configure your browser to notify you before accepting Cookies or simply to refuse them. However, please remember that some Cookies are necessary to enable the use of our websites. You do not need to have Cookies enabled to use or browse most Alibem sites, although you likely will not be able to access all their features if you do not. Check the “Help” section of your browser (such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Firefox) to learn how to manage these settings. If you use different computers in different locations, you will need to ensure that each browser is configured according to your cookie preferences.
